The Celebrity & The Samurai

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (August 3) – United World Wrestling has announced the launch of its four-part documentary video series featuring the sport’s most popular stars with the release of their second film, The Celebrity and the Samurai featuring three-time Olympic gold medalists Saori YOSHIDA and Kaori ICHO of Japan.

The film takes viewers inside the lives and careers of the arguably the world’s most dominant wrestlers in the weeks leading up to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. “The Celebrity and the Samurai” explores the duo’s accomplishments on the mat, but also their personal struggles and different attitudes in dealing with success.

United World Wrestling published its first feature documentary with “Battsetseg: Mongol Queen.” The film – shot on location in Mongolia – outlined that country’s growing women’s wrestling program through the life story of two-time world champion Battsetseg Soronzonbold who used wrestling as her way to earn an apartment, education, car and living salary.

“Wrestling speaks to everyone,” said United World Wresting president Nenad Lalovic. “We are featuring the journeys of our biggest stars which I know will inspire our young wrestlers. Our movies connect with women and men, young and old. They are a big step forward for developing more stars from our sport.”
